Collaborative Video Project with artist Kimathi Donkor
For this project we were divided into a team of six. Kimathi Donkor oversaw the groups. His practice of painting is drawn from his video works. The theme given to us was War and Peace with the brief set to create a 1-6 minute video
We were all tasked with different roles and I volunteered to take on the role of Producer with the following Tom Waring Cinematographer, Charlie Lang Director, Charlie Henson Story Artist, Paris Editor, Tanya Art Director.
Having never worked in this field or with these artists I knew that it would be a steep learning curve.
It took a while to settle down to business and the main thing was that we all had roles and had to fulfill those. As producer I had to step back and trust the others. Although I ultimately had final say.
Reflections: I realise that I did not use this role to my advantage and in hindsight I have learned that I should be more vocal.
The format of the film to me was completely wrong, portrait not landscape and I should have overruled this decision as I should have with adding more content and context to the footage. The music seemed appropriate prior to using it as the soundtrack, but again, in hindsight I felt that this was not fitting. The film was too long.
Conclusions drawn: This was not the most successful, collaborative project but I learnt a great deal from the experience, which I took on board and implemented in my role as project leader for 1' show at Chelsea
