Painters' Paintings, Fron Freud to Van Dyck,30th August 2016
Sainsbury Wing, national Gallery, London
This was not an exhibition I had made any investigative first strides to identify what thethematic or threads of the works were. Predominantly I was drawn because of the artowrks that were being displayed. This whole show was based on Famous artists and thier collection of art works they had accumulated and spanned 500 years. Each room dedicated to an artist but featured at least one self-portrait.
"In the end nothing goes with anything. It's your taste that puts things together." Lucien Freud, Courtesy National Gallery, London, 2016
Interestingly, from a curatorial perspective, the show was shown in a reverse chronological order and visitors were guided from a reverse direction to the usual entrances in the Sainsbury Wing.
